Olga Bonitas

I had the pleasure of viewing Olga Bonitas’s work in person and I was blown away. Olga Bonitas is a talented artist who primarily works in watercolour, who is quickly making a name for herself.

A 36-year-old biotech engineer by first degree, Bonitas decided to leave her career in 2015 to pursue painting full-time after realising she didn’t want to do what she was doing any more.

Bonitas quickly gained notoriety and began to draw attention from art critics like myself for her beautiful and intricate watercolour paintings. But it wasn’t until 2016 that Bonitas really began to make a splash in the art world. That’s when she started sharing her talent with the world by becoming a Top Teacher on Skillshare, an international online education platform specialising in courses for creative people.

Bonitas’s work is vibrant and alive, full of colour and movement. She studied watercolour under the tutelage of Russia’s leading watercolourists, Veronika Kalacheva, Sergey Kurbatov and Yulia Barminova. At the same time she started drawing book illustrations.

Sometimes she encounters her illustrations in the most unexpected places – in shop windows in central Tbilisi, at a market in Turkey or, for example, on cosmetics packaging.

What I love about Bonitas’s work is the sense of joy and playfulness that comes through. Her illustrations are whimsical and imaginative, and her use of colour is simply stunning. This is an artist who is clearly passionate about what she does, and it shows in her work. I highly recommend checking out her work if you get the chance – you won’t be disappointed!

There’s no doubt about it – Olga Bonitas is an artist to watch. With her unique blend of talents, she is sure to continue to surprise and delight us for years to come.

I was really impressed by Olga Bonitas’s work. The level of detail and precision in her watercolours is astounding, and her ability to translate that same level of detail and precision into her illustrations is equally impressive, and her use of colour and light is simply beautiful.  Bonitas’s work is incredibly meticulous, and it’s clear that she puts a lot of thought and care into each and every one of her paintings and illustrations.

The subject matter of Bonitas’s work is also quite interesting. She often paints everyday objects and scenes, but she does so in a way that makes them look otherworldly and magical. Bonitas’s work has a bit of an ethereal quality to it, and I think that’s what makes it so captivating.

It’s no secret that the world is going through a tough time right now.

But in the midst of all the darkness, there is still light – and that light comes in the form of Olga Bonitas’ artwork.

With her unique blend of talents, Olga is able to create pieces that are both beautiful and meaningful. In 2019 and 2021, she illustrated two books that were published by leading publishing house Mann, Ivanov & Ferber. And her work has even reached China – her book How to Have a Good Time in Nature was published there as part of a series of nature books.

What I love about Olga’s artwork is that it feels real. She doesn’t try to sugarcoat the world – instead, she shows us how she sees it, and how she wants it to be. This illustration with the thunderstorm cloud is a perfect example of that. It’s such an emotionally powerful piece, and it really captures the hope we all have that the darkness will eventually come to an end.

But Olga’s artwork isn’t just about pretty pictures. She also uses her talents to raise awareness for important social issues. She often collaborates with charity foundations and social organisations because she believes that we all have a responsibility to make the world a better place.

So if you’re looking for an artist who can create stunning artwork and also has a message of hope and positivity, then Olga Bonitas is definitely someone you should check out. She is truly an artist to watch.
